The First Ford GT Delivered to North America Is Going to Auction

The Ford GT is one of the most fantastic supercars on the market for all the right reasons, but this 1966 Ford GT40 MkI is in a class all its own. The only GRT40 road car delivered new with air conditioning, leather trim, luggage boxes, undersealed chassis and this special paint finish is also the first road car delivered to North America and was originally used as a test and evaluation car on Ford’s test track. After its brief stint on the Ford test track, the P/1028 served as Ford North America’s official promotional GT40 and eventually ended up in the hands of the same family for nearly 40 years. A comprehensive, four-year restoration was just completed, and now the car is destined for the auction block at Mecum. With an estimate of four to five million dollars, it’s going to take an enormous pocketbook to put it in your garage. We’re just going to drool over it in the meantime.
