Home Depot is full of products we use and love, but no one is confusing the store with MoMA. Abidur Chowdhury, a designer based in London, wants to change that. Here he’s taken the humble hammer and screwdriver, tools that work fine but have boasted the same aggressive, over-the-top design for decades, and given them a contemporary face lift. The first thing he did away with is the inconsistency between handle and head on all these tools, giving the ones in his collection a sleek body that goes from top to bottom. Then the hard edges were removed to make the tools feel a little more approachable. A black finish makes them look sleek and contemporary. We’re not sure if we’ll ever be able to fill our toolbox with these, but we sure would like to.
