There is perhaps no more iconic, beloved, unique and beautiful reading chair than the Eames Lounge Chair. But the classic Eames Lounge Chair originally designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller wasn’t quite special enough for Ottawa-based DIY builder Andrew Szeto. So what did Szeto do? He decided to make his own hybrid version of the iconic chair that replaces the traditional wood components with pieces made from recycled skateboards. This isn’t the first DIY project we’ve seen done with laminated and glued up skateboard decks, but it is by far the most impressive final project and video. Sure, Szeto had a great big space and a few higher end tools to work on the project, by and large it was done with affordable handheld tools, which means you could, in theory do something like this yourself. Prepare to be mesmerized by the full video.
