Different strokes for different folks applies to a lot of consumer design, but it’s particularly prevalent in the world of iPhone speakers. Some people want crazy bluetooth integration with their home stereo, WiFi network and Spotify account. They want to feel like their system is straight out of the house of the future and carry it outside for their barbecues without ever losing a beat, or any juice from the phone. Others want passive amplification so they don’t have to deal with wires, and cords, and cables. We like entries from both camps, but this Volta Sound Block might make us passive converts if only for the way it looks and the design. Each Sound Block is custom made with a solid block of Oregon Northwest Alder, a Bison Horn and wool from Pendleton. The wool prevents scratches, the wood promotes warm sound, and the bison amplifies. Plus, the horn is attached with magnets so it’s still easily portable.
