When Nike first released the real Mag sneakers with power laces–yes, the mythical sneakers from Back to Future–we could barely contain ourselves. All the Mags produced eventually got auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, but there was enough interest that Nike pushed forward with the self-lacing HyperAdapt 1.0 sneakers. According to reports from places like New Atlas, the HyperAdapt is coming back next year with a new design and a lacing mechanism now known as E.A.R.L. (Electric Adaptable Reaction Lacing). The team of talented industrial and product designers at Vietname-based Carota Design have created their own version of what a new pair of Nike HyperAdapt sneakers could look like. They’re fantastic in the most ridiculously futuristic way possible. As they appear in the concept, the hardshell sneakers have an almost armor-like build quality with single button operations to tighten and loosen the shoes. Here’s hoping something like this concept eventually sees the light of day because we’d slide into a pair in a heartbeat.
