Motorcycle accessories and lifestyle brand Velomacchi teamed up with Yamaha Motorcycles to build a custom bike that showcases the brands’ shared roots in motorcycle heritage, technology and innovation. Using the XSR700 platform as a base, they created the Rural Racer Project, “a bike that spoke to the modern urban dweller who uses their bike to both commute to work and escape on the weekends,” says Kevin Murray (Founder and Chief Designer at Velomacchi and lead builder of the bike). The heritage-inspired bike definitely fits with the Rural Racer name, but it doesn’t skimp on the modern tech, either, with the facial recognition ignition, smartphone tach/speed/GPS, DJI Mavic drone riding platform and a complete complement of custom parts ranging from a Yoshimura exhaust to a Race Tech front fork. The Rural Racer XSR700 was recently revealed at the One Moto Show in Portland as a “work-in-progress,” with the complete build scheduled to be revealed at the Handbuilt Show in Austin this April.
