When it comes to the Star Wars universe, almost all of the props, costumes and vehicles from the galaxy far, far away are unique, iconic and valuable. But if you ask anyone if they could have any one piece of memorabilia for their personal collection–outside of maybe a functional Tie Fighter, speeder bike or other vehicle–it’s going to be a lightsaber. Renowned memorabilia and prop auction house Prop Store is set to sell another collection of great paraphernalia that includes Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. As the story goes, “In the Star Wars canon, Obi-Wan constructed his third and final lightsaber after earning the title of Jedi Master, and continued to use this weapon until he sacrificed himself during his confrontation with Vader aboard the Death Star in A New Hope. The lightsaber’s hilt design inspired Obi-Wan’s apprentice Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) when he created his second, green-bladed lightsaber, which featured in Return on the Jedi.” This particular prop was gifted to stunt coordinator and sword master Nick Gillard from the film’s producers when the prequels were completed. It’s made from a combination of machined aluminum and cast resin detailing with a metal core and enough details to make it film-worthy. Obi-Want Kenobi’s Hero Lightsaber is being auctioned off during Prop Store’s Entertainment Memorabilia Auction in London on December 1st and 2nd. It’s estimated to bring between $107k and $160k when the gavel finally drops.
