You Can Own McLaren’s First Street-Legal Car

In 1969, McLaren unleashed the M6GT Coupe on the world. Okay, they unleashed precisely three of them, but the model was still the first street-legal vehicle to come out of the McLaren factory. Powered by a 5.0-liter Chevy V8, this is one of those three bonkers prototypes, and it’s the only one of the three built completely from the ground up (the others were fashioned from M6 Can-Am cars). Restored in 1996 by then-owner John Starkey, the M6GT you see here is up for sale with an asking price of around $330,000. The mid-mounted engine is aspirated via four Weber carburetors and the candy orange ride boasts a manual transmission, so brush up on your stick if you’re looking to own one of the rarest McLarens around.
