Volkswagen Is Making an All New Electric Dune Buggy Concept

Volkswagen just announced that they’re breathing new life into their lineup with a few teaser shots of a one-of-a-kind electric dune buggy. What they’re actually doing is resurrecting the idea of the Beetle-based buggy that was hugely popular in California in the 60s with a modern modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform. As VW tells it, “Now, the MEB is proving to be just as flexible. True to the original vehicles, this reinterpretation of a dune buggy has no fixed roof or conventional doors, while the large wheels and off-road tires and open side sills dominate the overall look.” Does this mean we’re going to see a modern Meyers Manx at some point in the future? We can only hope because so far, the very colorful teaser shots you see here are the only things to look at. Here’s hoping they change the name to something other than “e-buggy” by the time it’s revealed during the Geneva Motor Show in March.
