Steve McQueen’s Indian Sport Scout Is for Sale

Steve McQueen’s Indian Sport Scout Is for Sale

In 1934, as a response to the negative reaction to the Standard Scout and the failure of the Motoplane, Indian created a bike with a lighter frame, girder forks, improved carburation and alloy cylinder heads. It’s called the Sport Scout, and it’s an absolutely gorgeous bike. One of the best examples of that 8-decade-old engineering marvel is the bike you see before you. While we could wax nostalgic about the mechanicals of the bike that won the first Daytona 200 in 1937, they’re not the most important part about this specific Sport Scout. This particular 750cc Sport Scout was owned by one of Indian’s staunchest supporters—Steve McQueen. The bike was previously part of McQueen’s collection and was purchased by the current seller from a different Bonhams’ McQueen Sale late in 2006. If you happen to be the deep pockets that takes this bike home, you’ll also get a State of Idaho Certificate of Title signed by McQueen.
