Changing a flat tire is one of the things that every man needs to know how to do but hopes to never have to encounter because flats and blowouts are a giant pain in the butt. Michelin recently teamed up with GM to create the Uptis prototype–aka Unique Punctureproof Tire System–that is essentially an airless tire that just so happens to be made with 100% sustainable materials. What’s the performance like on a sports vehicle? How sustainable is it, really? Is it affordable? Is it functional? Is it really as effective as a traditional wheel and tire setup? We don’t have any of those answers because it’s just a prototype at this point. That said, we’re more than a little intrigued about what could be possible with something like the Uptis Prototype–especially if it’s run flat. Michelin Uptis Tires are only a prototype at this point, but the partnership with GM aims to introduce them on passenger cars as early as 2024 if everything goes to plan.
