The Harley-Davidson company began in the early 1900s, when William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson began work on a engine sized to fit on a standard pedal-bicycle. The company, as you no-doubt know, would go on to produce some of the most iconic motorcycles the world has ever seen. There was, however, a five-year stretch where Harley-Davidson didn’t just make motorcycles; they made bicycles.
Now, with the help of Chicago’s Heritage Bicycles, these long-forgotten two-wheelers are back. The new bikes are designed to look like the bikes made in 1917, ones Harley modeled after their motorcycles to try and get bike riders to consider a Harley-Davidson down the line. Each is built and painted by hand and only 10 will be made, so you best believe they’ll go fast, even if they sell for the estimated $4,200 a pop.
