Designed and built by a team of 16 Swiss University students, Ethec is an electric motorcycle that can go 250 miles on a single charge. The enormous battery that’s impossible to miss has a total of 1260 cells and is definitely a huge factor in the range, but the front wheel-hub motor that recuperates energy while braking is also a big factor. On the power side, you’ll get a consistent 30 hp or burst power up to 67 hp depending on temperature conditions. In terms of the overall looks, it looks like a collection of good ideas that just couldn’t find a unifying theme. The organic line that leads from the headlight through the “tank” and to the rear is great, but it doesn’t seem to fit on top of the giant battery and cable box style controller next to it. New Atlas said it “looks like some kind of overweight mechanical walrus” which, in addition to being hilarious, is not a statement we can disagree with. And yet, we’d totally still ride one regularly because it has almost a 250 mile range and recharges in an hour.
