Virgil Abloh is a man of many talents. Founder of Off-White, architecture grad, DJ, producer, new Men’s Artistic Director and Louis Vuitton and now, designer of rugs, chairs and other furniture in collaboration with IKEA. The IKEA Markerad collection designed in collaboration with Abloh includes a Frakta bag in leather, a chair with a doorstop leg, a daybed, a transparent cabinet and the piece everyone is talking about, a giant floor rug designed to look identical to an IKEA receipt down to the town edges. When asked about the collection, Abloh said “It’s about elevating the anonymous, everyday icons that we use without noticing. When we put a doorstop on one of the legs of an ordinary chair we create something unexpected – an interruption.” We’d say he nailed it with the Markerad collection. The entire IKEA Markerad collection will be available for a limited time starting in 2019.
