The Re-Ply Chair

Hacking materials to convert them to a purpose other than what they were designed for is really nothing new. Ball jars converted to lights or planters. Galvanized gas pipe converted to shelving units or shoe racks. The list goes on. Very rarely though do they get converted to such an extent that you have a Monster Garage “how in the f did they do that?” conversation with yourself. The Re-Ply chair is one of those projects. Using discarded cardboard–much like all those smiley face boxes gathering outside the office–artist Dan Goldstein creates a reclining chair that’s probably best described as Eames meets Captain Planet. There are going to be a number of options available for coverings, logos and base colors, but the principle remains the same: molded cardboard affixed to a base with nothing more than a pair of bolts. It’s pretty freakin genius if you ask us.
