Jacob Witzling is a 2nd grade teacher with a very unique side hustle—he hand-builds off-the-grid cabins inspired by worlds of fantasy and fueled by childlike imagination. Each of the five cabins that Witzling has built so far—including one that’s built onto the back of a truck—is made with scraps of scavenged material, upcycled lumber and a unique design that harkens back to his childhood love of forts and Ewoks. What’s even cooler, most of the cabins were built as a barter for land. As he told Dwell, “I provide the labor in exchange for years of access after the completion of the structure. One cabin I built with my brother just for fun. My most recent cabin I built for friends, and the Truck Cabin was built just for Sara and myself.” It’s probably worth mentioning that the Sara in question traveling around in the truck cabin is Sara Underwood, Witzling’s life partner and former Playmate of the Year. So yeah, he’s living a pretty good life.
