While we’re all for the updated cameras, faster processors, UI changes, and increased storage space that new smartphones bring, the biggest convenience upgrade from the last decade or so is wireless charging. Never having to dig out the appropriate Micro-USB/Lightning/USB-C or any other cable in favor of just setting your device on a special charging surface makes all of our lives easier. Your favorite furniture brand–IKEA, obviously–wants to make it even more convenient by letting you upgrade your existing furniture with the plug-and-stick IKEA Sjömärke Qi wireless charging pad. As opposed to having to drill out spots for mounting and cable routing, the IKEA Sjömärke sticks to the bottom of almost any surface with included double-sided sticky tape–along with including marker stickers for the top side so you know where to set your phone. Adding built-in wireless charging to your furniture doesn’t cost more than buying a dedicated wireless charging pad, but there are some caveats. The Sjömärke won’t work with metal and requires a surface between 3/8″ and 7/8″ thick, so oddly enough, it won’t work with some of the IKEA furniture you already own. The IKEA Sjömärke will be available in October.
