When renowned sake label Nakata Hidetoshi decided to produce a new sake with Yamadanishiki and Aiyama rice varieties they needed a bottle as high quality and unique as the sake itself. The two stipulations they were given were that the bottle had to shield the contents from UV rays, and it had to be in a shape generally not associated with a sake bottle. What came out of the design house Nendo is probably the coolest alcohol bottle we’ve ever seen. The matte black cylinder is supposed to be representative of a stick of charcoal, but it’s so much more than that. A subtle dimple on the side of the bottle makes it sit more gently in the hand, which also makes it easier to pour. The aluminum cap is milled on a lathe, and the bottle itself has a familiar, growler-style closure. If you can get your hands on one of the 900 bottles they produced, you’ll keep it for a lifetime.
