If you didn’t grow up as a space nerd, you might not know that the Voyager I and II spacecraft that NASA launched in 1977 are each carrying a golden record with sounds and images designed to function as a sort of time capsule about life on Earth. In honor of the upcoming 40th Anniversary of the mission, you can own a copy of the Voyager Golden Record thanks to a few other space nerds and Ozma Records. Bach. Chuck Berry. Mozart. Beethoven. Whale sounds. Greetings in 55 different languages. All of these items, along with the images and diagrams of the original and a brand new hard cover book are being packaged in a Kickstarter-only box set that absolutely belongs in your record collection. Just to put all this in perspective, even Carl Sagan (who chaired the committee that created the originals decades ago) didn’t receive a copy of this record, but the Carl Sagan Institute will be getting 20% of the net proceeds of this Kickstarter.
