Concrete can be an incredibly utilitarian building material, but it can also be used for everything from coasters and tables to pencil cups and iPhone skins. These D’Hauteville Concrete Armchairs from designers Julie Legros and Lavallard Boget–and available exclusively at Gessato–are the perfect example of the material being turned into something beautiful and functional. Drawing inspiration from iconic mid-century designs and applying their own modern twists the designers create a low and high version of the armchair that, despite being made of the same material as basement, look incredibly comfortable. Ultra-fine sanding gives the entire concrete form an incredibly smooth finish, and the rebar legs add that last little industrial design touch.
