When the people at Chrome set out to make their Forged Rubber Sneakers they did so knowing that “the world doesn’t need another sneaker.” They’re right. But they’re also right that this isn’t just another sneaker. They started by digging up 70-year-old machines that were originally used to produce army boots from a basement in Slovakia. Then, they found a spot in Thailand with local rubber production and skilled artisans. Combine the two with the forged rubber process (fusing the rubber directly to the canvas upper with 300 degree heat and a lot of pressure) and you have what you see here–Forged Rubber Sneakers. The end result is a sole that won’t split around the toes, heels or anywhere else because it’s so incredibly flexible. They’re also built with a reflective heel and an antimicrobial sock liner to combat odor if you go sockless. They’re currently available in slip-on and laced in 10 different options.
