An Original Futuro House is on Airbnb

The most famous architects of the 20th Century most certainly includes the likes of Saarinen, Gehry, Mendelsohn, Wright, Pei and Khan, but as we’ve said before, we’d be remiss not to mention Matti Suuronen and his Futuro UFO House that was extremely popular in the 60s and 70s. Designed and built with a shape that immediately recalls a flying saucer, the Futuro UFO House was a hallmark of the era limited to less than a hundred existing examples these days. One of the 19 still standing in the USA is now situated in the Joshua Tree National Park and is available for nightly stays thanks to the team at Area 55. On the outside, it remains full-scale flying saucer meets Gravitron amusement ride, but on the inside, it’s nothing but comfy, cozy and decked out in the kind of Mid Century Modern decor you want at home. Couple that with the expansive and appropriately appointed external amenities and you a recipe for one helluva glamping experience.
