Mario Trimarch Built a Copper Motorcycle Designed to Oxidize

One look at the bike designed by Mario Trimarchi is all it takes to fall in love. This ride trades the swooping curves, molded fiberglass and pieces of plastic you’re familiar with in favor of a faceted copper exterior that looks great now and will only look better as it oxidizes over the next few decades. Designed by Trimarchi for furniture manufacturer De Castelli to present during Milan Design Week, this bike is, quite literally, a rolling piece of art. Albino Celato, CEO of De Castelli, had this to say: “Metal, its workmanship, experimentation and research have constituted the core business of my family for four generations. The possibility of applying the know-how of De Castelli in different field, other than that of furniture, has been a thrilling challenge, also because of my personal passion for motorcycles. It has been a very satisfying experience to make Mario Trimarchi’s project a reality: the first motorcycle with bodywork entirely in copper.” It’s going to be impossible to keep this bike clean, and it probably gets way too hot in the sun to ride for extended periods of time, but that’s not really the point.
