Jaguar Classic Is Resurrecting the D-Type Race Car

More than six decades after the last example was built, Jaguar Classic is resurrecting the iconic D-type race car. Simply put, this is one of the most gorgeous cars ever made. You might even know that the classic car dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1955–1957 thanks to its unique construction and six-cylinder XK engine. What you might not know is that in 1955, Jaguar originally planned to build 100 D-types, but in the end they only managed to complete 75. Fast forward to today. Jaguar Classic is setting out to complete the company’s original ambition by re-making 25 D-types to authentic, original and exacting specifications. If you’re one of the people lucky and well off enough to get in line for one of these, you’ll be able to choose from either the 1955-specification Shortnose of the 1956-specification Longnose. The first D-type assembled by Jaguar Classic is set to make its debut at the Salon Retromobile show in Paris this week.
