The TSA Is Auctioning Off Confiscated Knives

GovDeals “provides services to various government agencies that allow them to sell surplus and confiscated items via the Internet.” It works like a slightly clunkier combination of eBay and Craigslist, but the important part is that it’s the site that the TSA and other agencies use to auction off their confiscated materials. The collection of goods you’ll find on GovDeals varies from day to day, but there are some pretty ridiculous deals up there right now if you’re in the market for knives or multi-tools with questionable backgrounds. The Portland Police Bureau is currently selling 40 pounds of assorted pocket knives (Kershaw, Gerber, etc.) at around $11 a pound. Pennsylvania State Surplus has a lot of 15 Leatherman Multitools that averages just over $20 each. Getting the exact knife you want isn’t as easy as simply buying it on Amazon and waiting three days, but there’s something to be said for the fun of the auction.
