E.J. Potter is a notorious tinkerer, racer and all-around lunatic that came to be known as the “Michigan Madman” because he liked to put Chevy V8 engines into motorcycle frames. One of his creations, the 1971 EJ Potter Chevrolet V8 “Widowmaker” Dragbike, recently went up for auction at Bonhams. It didn’t meet reserve when it crossed the block, so you still have a chance to own it. Widowmaker 7 has a Chevy small-block 350cid V8 with Crane gear-driven roller cam and rockers, Brodix aluminum heads, forged pistons, Vertex Len Hughes-built magneto and Kinsler-rebuilt Hilborn fuel injection. Put all those things together and you get a unique dragbike that set the record for world’s fastest motorcycle in 1973, as verified by Guinness. This is one hell of a motorcycle.
