Dodo Bird Composite Skeleton

Hunted to extinction by sailors centuries ago, the goofy looking dodo bird is resurfacing this weekend for an auction… kind of. We don’t live in a world (yet!) where we can resurrect animals based on DNA collected from mosquitoes, so the auction is for a rare composite skeleton. The piece is made up of bones originally sold at Stevens Auctions Rooms in the 19th century and assembled over the last 40 years to recreate the bird that was once found on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Summers Place Auctions will be auctioning the skeleton in their upcoming sale with high demand putting price estimates anywhere north of $375,000.
