As the video game industry continues to push technology forward, there’s still a large segment of the population that yearns for the bygone days of retro gaming. With the success of recent projects like the Analogue Pocket or the Playdate, throwback gaming is alive and well.
Swedish artist Love Hultén has taken it a step further with the NES-SY37 Synth Concept inspired by the Nintendo Entertainment System. The look and feel of this project is spot on. You’ll find a wooden panel encased in hard plastic just like the NES of old. The color palette, black D-pad, and physicality all contribute to an authentic love letter to that era of gaming.
The NES-SY37 is primarily a synthesizer. A retro keyboard inspired by the NES allows you to play the classic gaming hits thanks to the built-in NES Poly Chiptune Synthesizer. Additionally, there’s a real0time MIDI visualizer made in collaboration with artist p1xelfool.
But the fun doesn’t stop there because the 800×600 LCD screen can also be used for gaming as the NES-SY37 accepts NES cartridges. Plug in a few controllers and get gaming. Sadly no pricing or release details have been made available but keep an eye on this project.
