Hands-On: Pax Portable Vaporizer

Hands-On: Pax Portable Vaporizer

If you’re in the market for a portable vaporizer, you’ve probably heard of the Pax. The sleek and discreet device from Ploom has been called the iPod of vaporizers. We took one for a spin to see if it’s worth the $250 price tag.

What is it?

A loose-leaf vaporizer that easily fits in your hand or in your pocket. The lithium-ion battery-powered device offers three heat settings all which deliver clean vapor.

Who is it made for?

People looking to vape discreetly, whether that be with loose tobacco or with another certain herb, and people who enjoy smartly designed devices. Residents of Colorado.

How does it feel?

Solid. For $250 it better not feel cheap, and it certainly doesn’t. Pax is crafted out of anodized aluminum with a medical grade stainless steel air chamber. It has the feel of a well-made piece of tech.

What we liked:

It’s so sly. Pax produces about as little odor as you could hope for, it’s dead quiet, and the unit doesn’t look like a smoking device at all. These are obviously positives for many people. Compared to other portable vaporizers, the chamber in the Pax holds a very respectable amount of whatever you’re packing. The unit also heats up quickly, is simple to use, and just looks sexy.

What we didn’t like:

It’s not exactly the cheapest vaporizer on the market. Also, there is a bit of cleaning and upkeep required to keep it operating as efficiently as possible.

Coolest feature:

Play Simon. There are actually a few neat little Easter Eggs with Pax. Our favorite is the ability to play a game of Simon. Hold the Pax horizontally in front of you, rotate it toward you 12 times until the light turns white, a series of colored flashes will occur that you have to repeat by tilting the unit in certain directions. You know, because remembering things shouldn’t be a problem at all when you’re using the Pax.

See the Pax Play Simon.

Would we buy it?

Without question. While you might be tempted to go with a cheaper portable vape, the Pax is worth the extra cash in our book. It deliver on all fronts, and with some care on your part, it will be your smoking buddy for the foreseeable future.
