Former Morgan Motor Company Head Designer Matthew Humphries is on a roll… with watches. His love for motorsport and horology have led to this fourth model, this time with his most unique case design. The Sprint Automatic 2, or SA2, marks his second automatic model that’s inspired by both modern and vintage automobiles. The case is comprised of four distinct parts: the fixed bezel, knurled mid-case, screw-down caseback, and a dramatic exoskeleton frame inspired by wishbone suspension components from Hill Climb cars, specifically ones that have raced at the world’s oldest motorsport venue, the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in Worcester, UK. Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coatings set the case, bezel, and caseback apart from the stainless steel frame for contrast. It’s powered by a reliable dateless Miyota automatic movement, and it comes with a black and yellow striped Nato-style strap that perfectly symbolizes a race track. You can pre-order the limited-production SA2 now for around $750 USD, and the timepiece should be ready by July of 2019.
