The Instrmnt Applied Design Field watch borrows no-nonsense styling from early 20th century military timepieces but adds a hefty dose of modern with its matte finish dial and bold font. What’s more, it uses a Seiko VS37A solar-powered movement, so it eschews the old-school hand-wound approach and provides up to five months of charge on one day of natural or indoor lighting. The 38mm three-piece stainless steel case is capped off with a sapphire crystal for excellent scratch resistance. Buyers can choose between a white or black dial and numerous straps. $138 pre-order deposits are being accepted now. (The full price of the watch is $309.)
