Carroll Shelby is, without a doubt, one of the most prolific and influential car designers that ever lived. While he’s certainly best known for his work on the Ford GT, Mustangs and Cobras, the Shelby Cobra Dayona is one of our personal favorite works of his because, in addition to being one of the coolest cars you’ve probably never heard of, it represents a singular, beautiful pursuit of one goal–to absolutely crush rival Ferrari. The original accomplished that in 1965 before being outshadowed by the Ford GT, but it’s still a glorious piece of automotive history that we love. This particular ride is part of the CSX9000 continuation series of legendary Shelby Cobra Daytona that’s finished in black with silver Le Mans stripes and powered by a Roush-built 427 cubic-inch Ford V-8. This is the race car Bruce Wayne bombs around in when he’s not driving the Tumbler or the Lambo. The 2013 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe is scheduled to cross the auction block this weekend during RM Sotheby’s Palm Beach auction. It’s expected to fetch from $130,000 to $160,000, but with under a thousand miles on the odometer we could see it going significantly higher.
