When it comes to commercial off-road vehicles, there’s the Unimog and then there’s everything else. Whether you’re using it for hauling, climbing or as the base for a sweet expedition camper, the Unimog is a highly sought after vehicle because of its combination of power, versatility and dependability. That feature set is also why you don’t see too many used ones in decent condition come up for sale all that often. That changes today thanks to Bring a Trailer. Currently up for sale is a 2004 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U500 that, for all intents and purposes, is basically brand new with only 18k miles on the odometer and just over 600 operating hours on the engine. It’s powered by a 6.4L turbodiesel inline-six mated to an 8-speed pre-selector manual transmission, selectable transfer case and portal cases, which all comes together to make 260 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. If the configuration looks different than what you’re used to seeing that’s because it was converted from single-cab to crew cab in 2015 and fitted with a tilting dump bed from a short-wheelbase Unimog before getting finished in Mercedes Designo Platinum Metallic matte paint. This is a dream machine.
