As much as we love having instant access to many more tens of thousands of hours of television and movies than we could ever watch in a lifetime, there’s still a part of us that loves the idea of a channel you have absolutely no control over. That’s where the newly launched Reddit Public Access Network (RPAN) comes in. Much like old school public access network channels, one piece of user generated content is featured on the page. The modern Reddit twist is that you can scroll left and right through options and upvote or downvote to determine which broadcasts are featured. So far we’ve seen a hilarious collection of wholesome things (it’s SFW) you’d expect to be on there. 20k people watching a guy doing a reading of the Bee Movie. A camera “inside of a guitar watching Seinfeld.” All of the doggos and kitty cats. A jar of peanut butter and jelly stream. Bananas in a bowl. A router just blinking away. A tatted up dude knitting at work. In other words, it’s brilliant. RPAN will broadcasting from 9AM – 5PM PT through Friday, August 23 as of right now. But based on how much fun everyone seems to be having with it, it’s probably going to become a permanent feature.
