One of the Helmets Steve McQueen Wore During ‘Le Mans’ Is Up for Auction

To this day, almost five decades later, Le Mans remains one of the most celebrated racing films of all time despite the fact that the only notable “movie star” is the King of Cool himself. If you’ve been aching to own a piece of the cinematic racing classic that was famously shot during the actual running of the 1970 24 House of Le Mans, now’s your chance because one of the original crash helmets that was worn by McQueen himself and is signed by more than a dozen of the members of the original production members is up for auction right now. If you want to dive a little more in-depth, the helmet is a 1968 full-face Bell TopTex based on the design of Pedro Rodriguez that was worn by Fred Haltiner–as Johann Ritter, McQueen’s teammate in the film–along with McQueen, Redman, Siffert, Bell and others throughout filming.
