James Dean might have died in a car crash at the ripe old age of 24 more than half a century ago, but he remains a style icon known for his work in Rebel Without a Cause and East of Eden. This just in, the Dean of denim is being reborn as a CGI character in the upcoming Vietnam era action-drama Finding Jack. Now, normally, we’re not really the types of people that would be on board with having dead celebrities reborn as CGI characters in films, at festivals or for other modern purposes, but we’ll make an exception for Dean because, well, he’s James fucking Dean. Here’s what the press release had to say–“adapted by Mari Sova from Gareth Crocker’s novel, Finding Jack is based on the existence and abandonment of more than 10,000 military dogs at the end of the Vietnam War. Dean will play a character called Rogan, considered a secondary lead role.” Before you throw your hands in the air about Dean being resurrected–we thought about it, too–Dean’s family supports the endeavor including the “full body” CGI Dean reconstruction using actual footage and photos. We applaud the effort while still remaining cautiously optimistic about CGI James Dean.
