We’re not sure why, but we assumed the gear and garb fashioned for Game of Thrones was crafted by fire and brawn, built by craftsmen using nothing more than their stained hands and some rudimentary tools. Apparently it was not. It was bought at IKEA. Yup, the capes worn by Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch, the cover-ups that fend off the ever-coming winter, are actually rugs from IKEA. Michele Clapton, the costumes designer for the first five seasons of the show, dropped the soon-to-be Halloween outfit hack at a talk in Los Angeles. Quartz has taken a stab at finding out which IKEA rugs are being used, but has so far just come up with some educated guesses. Sorry to ruin the show, because you won’t be able to unsee this.
