In the not-too-distant future, expect to see every major motorcycle manufacturer come out with an electric model. That also means you’ll see versions for racing. Case in point, Ducati’s new prototype, the V21L. It was created as a development bike for the MotoE racing series that began in 2019. The Italian moto company will be the sole supplier for bikes in the series, and the V21L will lead the way for a street-legal electric motorcycle a little further down the road. The V21L was designed to behave on the tarmac like the gas-powered Desmosedici GP that Ducati races in the MotoGP series. It’s powered by a 18 kWh battery that can charge up to 80% in 45 minutes. The electric motor dumps out 148 horsepower. Other details include a carbon fiber battery case, aluminum subframe and rear swingarm, Ohlins shocks, and Brembo brakes. Expect it to outdo the current Energica bikes in the 2022 MotoE series due to its lightness and improved handling characteristics. Ducati says it will “create, as soon as the technology will allow, a Ducati electric vehicle that is sporty, light, exciting and able to satisfy all enthusiasts.” Aww yeah.
