The 100 Greatest Comedies of All Time, According to the BBC

The 100 Greatest Comedies of All Time, According to the BBC

We tried our hand at putting together a best comedies list. While we stand by our selections, we have to admit BBC Culture did a fine job with their Top 100, though their’s does skew a bit older. After surveying 253 film critics, they compiled their findings into one master list. One of the interesting things about the BBC’s survey is that it included critics from all over the world. That means that it takes into consideration what different populations find funny. You need only flip on a British sitcom in an American household to see that not everyone agrees on what tickles a funny bone. Here are the top 20 from their list:

20. Blazing Saddles (1974)

19. The Lady Eve (1941)

18. Sherlock Jr (1924)

17. Bringing Up Baby (1938)

16. The Great Dictator (1940)

14. His Girl Friday (1940)

13. To Be or Not To Be (1942)
