Skýli Is an Extreme Mountain Hideaway

Skýli Is an Extreme Mountain Hideaway

Designed by Utopia Arkitekter AB out of Stockholm for a design competition focused on Icelandic backpackers and nomads, Skýli (Icelandic for “shelter”) is an extreme mountain hideaway built for the most brutal conditions. Between its interesting triangular shape and huge windows, the cabin rises abruptly from the landscape while still not disconnecting you from it when you’re enjoying all the creature comforts inside. And speaking of creature comforts, the completely wood clad interior has enough space for an entire team of fifteen. Tables, beds, recharging stations, drying racks, cupboards, cooking area, toilet, benches, food cupboards, emergency communications and just about anything else you could think of are custom built into the space. Unfortunately, the mountain hideaway isn’t available for an extreme off-the-grid rental yet, but with as thought-out as the Skýli is, we expect to see them popping up over Iceland within the next few years.
