Travel to the town of Vejle in Denmark to find Fjordenhus (Fjord House), a modern castle that rises out of the Vejle Fjord like something out of your childhood dreams. Designed by Olafur Eliasson with inspiration from the harbor’s surrounding architecture, the recently completed Fjordenhus is made out of almost a million bricks in a complex and elaborate combination of curved, circular and elliptical forms, along with torqueing walls and parabolic arches. It’s obviously gorgeous, but the coolest part of the entire structure is the fact that it’s only accessible by footbridge. Inside, you’ll find plenty of spiral staircases, beautiful views, artworks by Eliasson and a conference room with a giant oval table. In other words, the only thing they’d need to do to go full modern castle is make it retractable like a drawbridge, but that would kind of kill the functionality of the building that will serve as base of operations for investment firm KIRK KAPITAL.
