Polestar used to be Volvo’s performance arm, but now the brand is being spun off into its own unique marquee, and it’s set to take on Tesla with the upcoming Polestar 1 hybrid. One look at the Polestar 1 and it’s apparent that it’s not your grandma’s Volvo. You’ll see nods to the reliable Swedish parent company in the headlights, but the futuristic GT car styling of the Polestar 1 takes centerstage. It only gets better when you start exploring the performance and tech specs of the vehicle. The Polestar 1 has a total of 600 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque split between the Volvo Drive-E 2.0-liter, which powers the front wheels, and the individual rear wheel electric motors. It’s also made with carbon fiber body panels, new suspension tech and an updated version of Volvo’s Scalable Platform Architecture. The Polestar 1 will only be available in two or three year subscription models (at least insurance and maintenance are covered so you never have to set foot in a dealership) with production slated to start in the middle of 2019. We can’t wait to drive it.
