Volkswagen’s Autonomous I.D. BUZZ Bus

At the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Volkswagen unveiled a new I.D. BUZZ Concept Bus, their autonomous version of the classic big family van. If the modern microbus looks familiar, that’s because it’s based on the original Type 2 (aka Kombi/Transporter/Microbus/Camper/VW Bus) that’s been popular since the ’60s. This iteration is an all-electric vehicle with a range up to 270 miles, convertible seating for up to eight people, luggage compartments, electric all-wheel drive, 369 horsepower and plenty of tech. There’s a heads up display that projects information via augmented reality, a flexible center console and an autonomous driving mode that will allow you to rest on the way to your next destination. We’ll probably never see this exact version of the concept hit the market, but we wouldn’t mind taking a ride in something similar if VW ever produces it.
