We’ve been big fans of VanMoof and their electric bicycles with traditional Dutch styling for more than a decade. They’ve continued to impress over the years as they worked their way through iteration after iteration until revealing the Electrified S2 and X2 E-Bikes a couple years ago. The latest versions are the appropriately titled VanMoof S3 and X3 electric bikes. Just looking at the pictures of version 2 and version 3 side by side will leave you hard pressed to find any significant differences in the overall profile except for a few cosmetic changes and a different seat. This is absolutely a good thing. They might not have made a lot of changes–“if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”–but the upgrades are significant. Redesigned power system that’s still good around 90 miles of range at a top speed just over 19 mph. It’s also got a new, industry-first automatic gear shifter and a hydraulic brake system. They kept the incredible security system with rear wheel kick lock, but updated the app and the smart controls. The took a great bike, made it even better and also cut five hundred bucks off the price tag.
