Recently, Toyota unveiled a new combination SUV / cargo van that kinda upset us because it wasn’t a sports car to replace MR2, Supra or 86 (aka Scion FR-S or Subaru BR-Z depending on how you feel about each of the brands). We’ve now learned that the brand has plans for a new sports car, the Toyota GR HV Sports Concept Car, which is also set to be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show. Reminiscent of the Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrid—hence the “GR” in the name of the new concept—this new ride combines every small, two-seat Asian car we loved over the past decade with a targa-style top, fancy kit pieces, hybrid drivetrain and convertible automatic/manual transmission that can be engaged with the push of a fire-the-missiles style button concealed in the gearshift. What more could you ask for in a concept?
