Thor Trucks describes itself as “a Los Angeles-based Transportation Lab creating and deploying solutions to fleet owners.” But what does that really mean? They Frankenstein-ed together an electric semi-trailer prototype that’s just as impressive as the Tesla Electric Semi Truck, and they’re expected to beat Tesla to market by a full year. The ET-One is an all-electric Class 8 tractor with 80,000 pound carrying capacity that’s been built for fleets by fleet operators. The futuristic, Transformers-esque truck will definitely be something to look at—particularly in the rear view—but it’s what’s under the “hood” that’s really impressive. With a chassis from a Navistar, heavy-duty Dana axles, a motor from supplier TM4 and house-built battery modules, the ET-One isn’t attempting to “literally reinvent the wheel,” according to co-founder Giordano Sordoni. They’re improving on existing technology to create a vehicle with a range of 300 miles that could make an actual dent in fossil fuel consumption.
