This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 500 TE AMG Wagon Has a 5.0-Liter V8

Nowadays, everyone knows AMG as the performance arm of Mercedes-Benz that’s responsible for their most wild and crazy ideas. But when they got their start more than fifty years ago, Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach (AMG) was basically three former Mercedes engineers souping up the German automobiles out of garage. This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 500 TE AMG wagon you see here is the perfect example of the brand’s early work. If you ignore the murdered out exterior trim, aftermarket trim and lowered stance, it kind of looks like your average late 70s W123 wagon, but this is one old school Merc wagon that’s anything but average. One of only a handful that were customized by AMG, this beating heart of this behemoth is a 5.0-liter V8 that was custom fit into the engine bay of this otherwise unsuspecting wagon. Among the other AMG upgrades are date-stamped Recaro seats, new upholstery and additional gauges, and the car got a cosmetic overhaul a few years ago before being featured in a Top Gear segment celebrating 50 years of AMG.
