Suzuki XF650 Freewind Scrambler Custom

When it comes to rebuilding bikes, we’re partial to a starting point that bears a name like Honda, BMW, Triumph or Yamaha. In fact, we settled on Yamaha when we actually went through the entire process for the Cool Material Motorcycle Build. The point being that Suzuki isn’t one of the first names that comes to mind when you’re talking about building a custom from the ground up, but that’s exactly what furniture designed turned motorcycle builder Martin Schuurmans settled on when a client requested a scrambler that was built for long road trips. As Schuurmans tells it, “Fast enough to cruise on the highway, light enough to handle nimble offroad, and reliable enough to go on long distance trips without much hassle. He wanted the looks of a tough and traditional looking scrambler but with a modern twist.” Take one affordable Suzuki XF650 Freewind, overhaul the engine, completely redesign it, build all the custom parts, add a Honda CB 350 gas tank and finish it off with plenty of paint and powdercoat. The end result is a unique and downright pretty bike that’s even more impressive when you factor in that this was Schuurmans first full custom. We can’t wait to see what comes next.
