Rivian, the electric car manufacturer founded by MIT grad RJ Scaringe, is following up on its incredibly popular Rivian R1T All-Electric Truck with a full SUV model dubbed the Rivian R1S. Much like the R1T truck variant, the R1S SUV features a 400+ mile range, quad-motor system, wading depth of 3 feet and the ability to hit 60 mph from a complete stop in just 3 seconds. The ability to travel from San Francisco to Yosemite and back on a single charge at breakneck speed is great and all, but it’s everything else about this vehicle that makes it truly fantastic. For starters, it doesn’t exactly look like the all-electric SUV many imagined years ago. It has bits of Toyota, bits of Land Rover and bits of Jeep in the exterior design department, while also being outfitted with a state-of-the-art interior. Just as importantly, the three rows of comfort seating accommodate up to seven passengers with plenty of room for gear and luggage storage. This is the SUV of the future.
