The Revolve Wheel Collapses for Easy Storage and Transport

Reinventing the wheel is something that’s always jokingly referred to as impossible because the design is so simple and elegant that it can’t be improved. The founder and inventor of the Revolve folding wheel, Andrea Mocellin, begs to differ. The Revolve wheel uses a mechanism similar to those found in a Hoberman sphere (that’s the technical term for the colorful childhood toy that you pull on to expand into a sphere much larger than its original shape) to create a fully functional bike or wheelchair wheel that collapses down to take up 60% less space and be easier to carry when not in use. Converting from cylindrical storage mode to functional wheel mode or back is as simple as pushing or pulling on the hub once you use the magnetic key to lock or unlock the mechanism. If you spend any amount of time bike commuting, Revolve makes it easier than ever to take your front wheel with you. Revolve is currently just a functional prototype, but we fully expect to see the interesting design go into production in the future.
